If your purchase of Office or Microsoft 365 came with a product key, you enter your product key on one of the websites listed below for your product. After you enter your key, you can download and install Office, or you can renew your Microsoft 365 subscription.
If you see the error This product key has already been used when you enter your product key on www.office.com/setup or Microsoft365.com/setup, this means your product key has already been redeemed and is no longer needed.

I don't know who were were talking to but you did not get good advice. Call the activation number again. Last time I did it the auto activation process gave me a new product key without any problems. Maybe Microsoft
Does that mean Office was a preinstall option when you bought the laptop new? If so, the product key might be on some of the documents related to the original purchase, like a printed or email receipt. See if you still have any of that in your files or email archives.

@Spencer: Just an FYI for you and your readers here. The move to Office 365 has a huge problem right now that some have already reported here. The e-mail you get after typing in your *.mil e-mail address in -us/home-use-program has all the links disabled as per DOD policy which stops you cold from being able to purchase the discounted Office products.

If you want to do it yourself just make sure the computer that had Office before is not online anymore or dead and then install Office on the new computer you want it on using the product key and download link you got when you first purchase Office.
The discount isnt to help the service member, its to help the units. The benefit is for AD because the various branches use MS Office products in day to day activities. To facilitate the proficiency of the AD members in MS Office suite, they came up with this program get more members using it at home. This would in turn improve their usage at work, theoretically. Like many benefits, some are limited to time of service, and more recent veterans/retirees who utilized this benefit before separating should still benefit, but wont be able to acquire any new licenses.

The real problem is how do you deactivate your product key on the mac? Do you completely remove all Microsoft Office related files on your computer? Or do you have to go through a certain uninstaller to deactivate your product key on your computer in order to proceed using?
